We provided varying types of therapy to support to needs of our residents including but not limited to:
Aftercare Planning is a critical step in ensuring holistic support. We believe It is important to start making aftercare plans at the beginning of our resident’s initial treatment. An aftercare plan outlines what services residents will need to continue receiving after discharging from our residential homes. Planning addresses things like, where will you live, continued counseling, transitional and step-down options, as well as ongoing medication management.
Limbrick and Gilbert (LG) Legacy for Kids began in 2009 with a desire to foster and adopt children, establishing a safe and nurturing environment for them to learn, grow and develop.
Building on a foundation of Christian beliefs, a family lineage of caregivers as role models and a strong sense of community, our purpose is to lead the evolution of childcare; motivating and empowering others with the same desires and grooming the next generation of caregivers who serve with compassion and excellence.
We provide nurturing and loving therapeutic treatment homes where children with trauma and critical needs can realize and manifest their highest potential. This is backed by our relentless mission to provide every child with trauma-informed care and a high-impact educational experience.
Our care for the children and caregivers we serve is anchored in our vision to redesign and redefine quality care for youth. More than a decade later, that vision has forged the foundation for the existing homes and programs that we have today, which include: Turning Point Children Social Services, The Gold Star Academy and Rob & Simon’s Hawthorne House.
Over the last ten years, LG Legacy for Kids has served hundreds of children with a focus on their mental health and physical well-being. As an accredited Group Residential Program, LG Legacy for Kids continues to meet new marks of excellence and quality by redefining the full continuum of care for the children we serve.
At LG Legacy for Kids, we believe changing one life, changes everything.
Our residents in each residential home will attend various schools located in the community.
Relying solely on the school system is not always effective. Letting a learning problem linger can reinforce a child’s negative attitude and loss of self-esteem. At LG Legacy for Kids we realize that when children get the help they need quickly, a learning problem can be transformed into a learning opportunity. Giving them the boost in confidence that will help them tackle difficult learning challenges in the future. Which is why we provide supplemental learning like tutoring – which is contracted with Grade Potential, a local tutoring service. They provide our resident’s tutoring in elementary and middle school subjects, including math, English, foreign language, science, social studies, and reading and writing.
As an organization, we utilize the concepts of Trauma-Informed Care Curriculum. This is including a wide approach to service delivery that is grounded in an understanding of trauma and its consequences while promoting healing and resilience in children.
Our therapist and service professionals utilize CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) as a core approach if the development of programming for behavior modification Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy® (TF-CBT) is a psychotherapy model designed to treat posttraumatic stress and related emotional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents. Components of the treatment model include psychoeducation and parenting skills, relaxation skills, affect expression and regulation skills, cognitive coping skills and processing, trauma narrative, conjoint parent-child sessions, and enhancing safety and future development. TF-CBT requires clinicians to be trained and receive regular supervision by outside clinicians and practitioners.
TF-CBT is a structured, short-term treatment model that effectively improves a range of trauma-related outcomes in eight to 25 sessions with the child/adolescent and caregiver. Although TF-CBT is highly effective at improving youth posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and diagnosis, a PTSD diagnosis is not required to receive this treatment. TF-CBT also effectively addresses many other trauma impacts, including affective (e.g., depressive, anxiety), cognitive and behavioral problems, as well as improving the participating parent’s or caregiver’s personal distress about the child’s traumatic experience, effective parenting skills, and supportive interactions with the child.
Teaching life skills are an essential part of ensuring client success when they transition to adulthood and independence. We utilize the Casey Life Skills (CLS), which is a tool that assesses the behaviors and competencies youth need to achieve their long-term goals. Youth entering the program will take the CLS assessment, which identifies areas of strength and needs in permanency, daily living, self-care, relationships and communication, housing and money management, work and study life, career and education planning, and looking forward. The CLS program then generates both the results and recommended learning plans to follow in all domains. Life skills instructors then facilitate individual and group lessons geared at helping youth obtain skills in identified areas. Additionally, the program is designed to engage clients in everyday living, so they naturally acquire life skills with examples such as dishwashing, meal planning, cooking, laundry, budgeting, setting up a bank account, or balancing a checkbook.
A model of care to help children overcome their original trauma, and help them to begin forming healthy attachments as they learn to trust again.
Children receiving the trauma-informed care they need in their own community, they are receiving their treatment while living in a comfortable, home-like environment that facilitates their healing. Residents are also given opportunities to develop and strengthen their faith, which expands their level of trust and brings them into a community of mutual support.
Our services also include comprehensive medical and dental care, health and sexual education services, exercise programs, hygiene instruction, and other self-care services. Medical Services are provided by third-party vendors.
